If your social media feeds are anything like mine, they are currently flooded with photos of beautiful new foals. It’s enough to make any horse owner think, “Should I breed from my mare this year? “
If you’ve been sitting on the fence, thinking you’ve missed the boat for a 2027 foal – don’t worry. June is actually one of the busiest and most successful months of the stud season. The weather is warmer, the grass is good and mares are cycling beautifully.
If you are aiming to breed a horse with many uses, here is why our two resident Connemara stallions should be at the top of your list this June.
1 Amateur Brain is Hereditary
The amateur market demands one thing above all else: Temperament. You want a horse that is talented enough to be competitive, but sensible enough to be a pleasure to load, shoes, hack and handle alone, plus be able to give them time off without the worrying of getting back on them! Connemara’s are world-renowned for their exceptional brains. When crossed with sport horses or thoroughbreds, they produce the ultimate all-rounder – athletic, hardy and incredibly kind.
2 On-Yard Coverings at Thornholme.
If you want a completely hands-off experience, you can send you mare to us here near Driffield. We take care of everything. With over 30 years of breeding experience and the reproductive experts from ERS Malton visiting at least three times a week, your mare is in safe hands in Yorkshire. We track her cycle, perform AI or natural covering and keep her safely until she gets a positive scan.
3 Chilled Semen: We ship Nationwide.
If your mare can’t travel, our stallion can come to her (well virtually). We offer quality chilled semen packages. We can collect and process the semen on-site using professional equipment to ensure maximum viability. We coordinate directly with your vet to make sure the parcel arrives exactly when you mare is ready to ovulate.
Don’t Wait Until July
While the breeding season runs through the summer, slots for our two Connemara boys are filling up fast after our influx of foaling mares plus we do get busy on the farm with harvest.
Whether you want to bring your mare to our beautiful East Yorkshire base or order a chilled package to your own vet, get in touch with us to secure your slot. Let’s breed your next superstar.
